Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was clearly always fighting an uphill battle in terms of finding an audience, having consistently looked underwhelming prior to release, and sure enough, the open world looter shooter underperformed both critically and commercially upon its launch in February earlier this year. As a result of the game’s failure, however, it’s being reported that developer Rocksteady Studios has been hit with layoffs.

That’s as per Eurogamer, which claims in a report that it has been Rocksteady staff that the studio has laid off a number of employees. A significant portion of the layoffs have happened in the quality assurance (QA) department, which has seen its strength reduced from 33 to 15, as per the report. Allegedly, staff members within the studio acknowledge that following these cuts, Suicide Squad’s quality is likely to take a hit going forward- which will be a major blow for a game that already doesn’t have a ton of fans.

Other departments within the studio have also allegedly see redundancies, but further details are currently unknown.

Shortly after Suicide Squad’s launch earlier this year, publisher WB Games said that the game had fallen short of its expectations, while more recently, it emerged that the looter shooter has driven a 41 percent drop in revenue for the company.

In our review of the game, we gave it a score of 5/10, saying, “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League isn’t the worst live-service title ever made, but its mediocrity is hard to deny, especially from a developer capable of so much more.” Read the full review through here.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
