"There appears to be the perception of a problem."

EA boss John Riccitiello has come out and taken a stand on the ongoing debate and issue of whether or not video games are responsible for real world violence. He says there is no real problem, but that there’s a lot of discussion about the issue, so there seems to be a “perception of a problem.”

While there may not be an actual problem, given all the finger-pointing going on in the press, there appears to be the perception of a problem,” said Riccitiello during an investors call.

“We do have to wrestle with that,” he said. “Ours is an industry with an association that has risen to that call many times before, and will, as we move forward. We’re responsible, we’re mature, we intend to be part of the solution.”

“I think you’ll hear more from Mike Gallagher, the head of the ESA and other industry participants, including ourselves, over how we can be part of a solution to this perception problem,” he said. “As opposed to, if you will, the butt of the joke.”

We do agree that the video games industry is being made the brunt of all these accusations baselessly. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
