BioWare’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the first title in the franchise since 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition, has underperformed. According to Electronic Arts (per Bloomberg), it reached 1.5 million players in the quarter ending December 31st, 2024, which missed projections by about 50 percent.

Alongside the mixed reception to EA Sports FC 25, the publisher missed previous bookings forecasts of $2.4-2.55 billion, coming in around $2.22 billion instead. As a result, it’s reducing projected bookings for the fiscal year from $7.5-$7.8 billion to $7-$7.15 billion. Live service bookings are also taking a hit, declining by a mid-single-digit percentage compared to the previously expected mid-single-digit increase.

Though it will reveal comprehensive results on February 4th, CEO Andrew Wilson said the company remains “confident in our long-term strategy and expect a return to growth in FY26, as we execute against our pipeline.”

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched on October 31st for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It crossed 89,000 concurrent players on Steam, though EA never revealed sales figures. First-week sales in Europe were reported to be lower than Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, though UK sales were similar to the two. Director Corinne Busche also recently left the studio for a new offer described as a “can’t turn down” opportunity.
